Essentials for Cats

Tips for Caring for Your Feline Friend:

  • Litter Box – Covered or open, the choice is yours. (Covered boxes help contain litter, but if your box has a flap, tape it open temporarily to help your cat adjust.) Place the litter box in a quiet corner where your cat can monitor its surroundings yet still feel secure and undisturbed.

  • Litter – Choose between crystal, eco-friendly, or traditional options. Crystal litter is often favored for its ability to absorb odors quickly, making it ideal for indoor use.

  • Litter Scoop – Be sure to select a scoop that suits your chosen litter type for easy cleaning.

  • Food and Water Bowls – We recommend separate bowls for food and water, ideally at least two of each to rotate for cleaning. Ceramic or glass bowls are more hygienic and stylish. (Keep the food and water bowls far from the litter box—placing them in different rooms or distant corners is best.)

  • Carrier – Select a carrier based on your cat’s breed and expected adult size, ensuring a comfortable fit as they grow.

  • Scratching Post – A must-have for every cat! If you want to protect your furniture, invest in a durable scratching post, whether it’s a panel or tree-style. Be patient as your cat gets accustomed to it—it’s a small effort for a big reward.

  • Tailored Nutrition – For optimal health, veterinarians recommend trusted brands such as Hill’s, Proplan, Royal Canin, Iams, or Scientific, all of which are available at veterinary clinics. Your vet will guide you toward the best choice. (Typically, kittens need kitten food up to 1 year old, adults eat adult food from 1–6 years, and senior cats benefit from special senior formulas beyond 6 years.)

  • A Cozy Corner of Their Own – Give your cat a soft bed, basket, or box where they can feel safe and comfortable. Even a folded blanket will do—your feline friend will appreciate having their own space. 😊

  • Toys for Joy – Toys are essential not only for exercise but also for building a deeper bond with your cat. Spend some time playing together daily—watching them play is one of life’s simple pleasures. 😊

  • Grooming Brush – Regular brushing keeps your cat’s coat healthy and reduces shedding. It also minimizes the amount of fur they ingest. While your cat may resist brushing at first, over time they’ll come to enjoy it, and it will become a cherished part of your routine.

  • Veterinary Care – One of the first things to do is schedule a check-up with a nearby veterinarian to ensure your cat’s health and start their vaccination program. Your vet will provide all the essential guidance for your new companion.
